‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ to be Removed from Paramount+ Next Week

Star Trek enthusiasts who have yet to view Prodigy may want to do so before the upcoming week, as per The Hollywood Reporter (via io9), Paramount+ has decided to cancel the show along with a few others, such as Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and The Game. Following in the footsteps of Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount Global is also eliminating Star Trek: Prodigy and the other canceled programs from Paramount+ to receive a tax writeoff. Fans have a limited time to watch the series before its future becomes uncertain.

“As we prepare to combine Paramount+ and Showtime later this month in the US, we are enhancing our content offerings to provide subscribers with the best streaming experience,” a Paramount+ spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. “This is consistent with our content strategy from launch and across our business, ensuring we make smart and effective choices based on audience data and insights. We will eliminate certain programming as we seek to optimize Showtime’s robust premium original lineup.”

The cancellation comes after Paramount+ previously greenlit Star Trek: Prodigy for a second season. The show could find another home. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Prodigy producer CBS Studios plans to finish post-production on the second season and shop both seasons to the new streaming platform. Other Star Trek series will not be affected by the announcement, as Paramount+ will remain home to ongoing releases such as Strange New Worlds.
